A couple of years ago I decided to make some PE kit type bags for the children in my family for Christmas. However, I also decided that the adults needed one as well! When I sew I like to think I have a bit of an ‘Emma style’ in that I usually applique lettering onto things and usually with a straight stitch, not a zig zag.
The base of the bag is made from calico (which I also sell). The lettering fabrics come from anything fitting the colour scheme. In fact the Charlotte bag is made from fabric found in a number of skirts, I liked the patterns and so chopped up the skirts! The Lucy bag is partly made from a tunic top that I bought in the sale! I use felt as well for a different texture. I finish off with whatever ribbon or trim matches the colour scheme. Smaller patterned fabric is best and brightly coloured fabrics stand out better from the calico.
As the Lucy bag shows, you’re never too old for a PE kit bag ;0)
